Welcome to Achor Ministries
“I will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.
There she will sing as in the days of her youth.” (Hosea 2:15)
“In the seventh chapter of the Book of Joshua we see how the Israelites were defeated at the Battle of Ai because of the sin and disobedience of Achan. The place of this defeat was called the Valley of Achor. “Achor” means “trouble”. Many years later God spoke through His Prophet, Hosea and said, “I will make the valley of Achor (Trouble Valley) a door of hope. There she will sing as in the days of her youth”
In the seventies Wendy and I ministered in a valley in the East End of Brighton, England in a Council slum clearance Housing Estate. It was indeed a trouble valley. While we were there God worked powerfully in our midst. The prophecy given to Hosea was given to us and fully fulfilled! This is how God worked: Children came into the Vicarage garden through holes they had made in the fence. We invited them into the house and Wendy taught them to sing scripture songs. They loved the songs and started coming to church. Soon after that their parents joined them. They discovered Jesus and He opened the door of hope for them. Many troubled lives were transformed.

| Latest from Fr Tom Hall - Sunday, October 09, 2011NEWS FROM THE BUSH MINISTRY FUND
Next Money box collection is 30 November so we can finalize all monies by end of year. Thank you to the many, many people who support this project.
Fr Tom Out and About around the Diocese
Fr Tom & Wendy attended the “Go for Growth” conference at St Andrew's Lutwyche on Friday and Saturday and were inspired by the speakers. Wendy and the Bush Ministry Fund Team enjoyed the warmest welcome from the Cathedral at both their 7.30am and 9.30am services on Sunday. They were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic support from the Dean and the Cathedral parish family. Wendy spoke about the needs of the west and said that the message that the Archbishop shared with the “Go for Growth” conference of growing in faith, growing in service and growing in generosity is so applicable to supporting the needs of our western friends. The Dean, Rev Dr Peter Catt presented her with a cheque for $1,004 from their outreach programme in August for BMF with a promise of more than $1,300 yet to be given from money boxes. The Dean was a wonderful assistant in helping to market the BMF items for sale during the notices much to the great joy of the team and the congregation.
Christa Aspinall and Wendy Hall were special guests at Woolloongabba’s Fashion Parade. Wendy spoke to the 100 ladies and shared about the work of the BMF (and again sharing the Archbishop’s message from the “Go for Growth Conference”). Funds from this parade (and other functions) throughout the year were for the Bush Ministry Fund. The Parade and the magnificent “high tea” following the parade was themed around the Bush. Wendy arranged for 11 gold windmills to be used as table decorations.
Congratulations to a huge effort Fr Ron & Jenny Pascke and Woolloongabba Parish to help support our regional and remote friends.

BUSH MINISTRY FUND VARIETY CONCERT
We had the most wonderful evening last Saturday evening at St Andrews Church Lutwyche. We had outstanding performances from a variety of very talented artists. The church was standing room only with more than 300 attending. Fr James Hall did a fantastic job as MC and it was wonderful that Bishop Ray Smith, former Bishop of the West was able to attend and give us a blessing as he was one of the instigators of BMF. We look forward to the full story and photos in the October Focus. Artist Dianne Minaar painted a beautiful picture of a windmill while the Achor music team sang “In Christ Alone” which she donated to BMF. $300 was received for this from a silent auction at the end of the concert.
FR TOM OUT AND ABOUT AROUND THE DIOCESE
Fr Tom, Wendy, Fr James Hall, Diane & Hannah Eldridge lead chapel services at Churchie last week for the Grades 8 & 9 boys. They also gave a presentation to the young prep and young one children as well. The boys were so encouraged to hear the messages particularly about life as a bush priest from Fr James. Fr Tom had the opportunity to speak to the clergy at the Western conference in Toowoomba last Wednesday. He once again received a wonderful response again from Woolloongabba Parish at their men’s breakfast last Saturday. Monday this week Fr Tom had the great pleasure of presenting to Ros Curtis, the Principal of St Margarets Anglican Girls school a windmill after they presented him a cheque for $2,762.95. Fr Tom will be visiting St Lucia this Sunday to preach and talk about the work of BMF.
Fr Tom would LOVE to speak to breakfasts, dinners, church services, parish councils and other parish groups about the work and ministry of the Bush Ministry Fund in our Diocese. Contact him on 0428 711 719 or email tombbhall@aanet.com.au to arrange a visit in 2011.

| Blessed Easter Greetings!!! - Friday, April 22, 2011 Dear all,
Easter is just round the corner (in 2 days, in fact), and on behalf of the Achor team, I would like to wish you a very blessed Easter as we remember the true meaning of Easter, how Jesus died on the cross so that we may be saved and forgiven. I pray that as we celebrate his death and resurrection, we will continue to have hope and faith and be filled with love for one another.
Easter also marks the fact that the month of April is drawing near to the end very quickly, bring us closer to half way through 2011. The Achor team have been busily, yet faithfully, serving at St Andrew's, Lutwyche, during the S.A.L.T. services every Sunday night. We have also started a Sunday School which runs during the service.
This Sunday, during the 8.30am Easter Sunday service at Lutwyche, the Achor choir (and keyboardist) will be participating in the service and will be singing during the institution of Holy Communion. This Sunday's evening service is cancelled, so as to encourage everyone to spend time with family and friends as we celebrate the great festival.
In other news, Fr Tom Hall has also recently finish his locum period with St Bartholomew, Mt Gravatt and has transferred his P.T.O. to St Andrew's Lutwyche. He will, however, be away to the Anglican Church in Buderim for 5 weeks to do some locum work with the local parish. He can still be contacted, or call Wendy Hall and/or Diane Eldridge should you have any enquiries.
Achor Ministries music team and Fr Tom Hall are still available for 1 Day Mission trips to your parishes in the next half of 2011. Mission trips are usually a time of exposure and ministry for all team members and we look forward to meeting members of your parish and share with you as we worship together. Please contact Diane Eldridge to enquire or book.
Till the next update, have a blessed Easter 2011 and a stay safe throughout this long weekend break. May we continue to also remember those who have gone before us as well as those who have fought and/or are still out there fighting so as to protect us and our nation this Anzac Day. Lest we forget.
God bless all of you!
Love in Christ, Sharon

| News Update! (Feb-Mar 2011) - Saturday, March 19, 2011 Dear all, it's been a quiet but busy month for the Achor team over the last couple of months. We have been invited to lead the praise and worship segment for a new contemporary service at St Andrew's Church, Lutwyche. This new service, 'Seeking And Learning Together (or better known as S.A.L.T.) is "a new initiative of St Andrew’s, Lutwyche where you can gather together with others to explore Questions of Life and learn what the Bible has to offer. Ask any question at all."
Headed by Rev Sandra, Rev Jenny and Rev Ralph, the team join together to experience the joy of worshipping the Lord as part of God's great family, every Sunday evenings at 6.30p.m. with the first service held on 13th February 2011.
For more information regarding this service and/or how you can you be involved in this, click here or to contact Diane Eldridge.
Other than that, the Achor team is still heavily involved and supporting the Bush Ministry Fund, with more plans of going out to parishes in the coming weeks. We have also been supporting the BMF through monthly street stalls. Head over to Aspley Hypermarket this Tuesday (22 March 2011) from 9.00a.m. onwards to say hello, check out what's in store and have a lovely chat with the lovely people at the stall. Also, it will be great if you are able to contribute anything of any kinds towards the stall. All proceeds goes to the Achor Ministry and Bush Ministry Fund. Please contact Fr Tom Hall or Diane Eldridge for more information.
As we prepare ourselves during this season of Lent, let's us also continue to count our blessings and keep praying for all the people who may be affected, both directly and indirectly, by the natural disasters in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and everywhere else in the world. May they find comfort, hope and love through Him as they rebuild their lives again.
Till the next update, may our Lord Jesus Christ continue to keep you safe and bless you and your loved ones. :)

| Proston trip January 2011 - Monday, February 07, 2011 The Achor Music team, together with Fr Tom and Wendy Hall, went to visit Proston on the 29th - 30th January 2011. The team did the 4 hour drive to Proston, via Gympie and witnessed first-hand the devastation caused by the recent floods along the way.
Mr Ian and Mrs Ann Harold, former parishioners of Strathpine now living in Proston, extended a warm welcome to us and opened their home for us for the night. The team had an amazing time in fellowship and ministry with the people of Proston during the service and the lunch which followed suit on Sunday.
Please click here to view pictures.
Please join Achor Ministry, as we continue to pray for the people who have been affected, both directly and indirectly, by the recent major natural disaster in Queensland. May our prayers and love bring hope and restore joy to these people as they rebuild their lives. |
